Lesson 2, disregard lesson 1 if you really really like a section of history but people did reprehensible things and you don't know how to deal with it without changing your worldview. Lesson 3, rewrite the past in whatever way benefits you to tell a story that affirms people biases so they don't have be ashamed of the past or do anything to rectify it.
